There are a number of areas where the builder has the opportunity to customize the airplane to meet a specific mission goal.  The plans will often call for a simple and sometimes crude part to be used in place of something that should be more elegant.  Take for example the rudder to tailwheel links.  Vans uses screen door springs and chains in this very visible area of the plane simply because they're cheap and they work.  Considering the fact that this airplane will end up costing north of $50 grand, I have decided improve the fit and finish by spending a few extra bucks on some of these minor parts.  I hope you find this list helpful in your decision making process.
